Xbox 360

Xbox 360 prices

The Xbox 360 with cost $299, but for $399 you get these extras: 20 GB HD, wireless controller & headset, ethernet cable and remote control. Basically, if you go the cheaper route your Xbox 360 will have no hard drive. This is a smart move for Microsoft to control their losses on initial sales. Console makers turn their profits from game licensing, not from individual console sales.

Xbox360 makes it home

Here is a picture of a kid of a Microsoft employee playing the Xbox360 at home. Apparently he is the son of Microsoft's Regulatory Compliance Manager -- so says Joystiq. Amusingly 40% of the picture is the kids face, 50% is the kids hair, and 10% is a little Xbox 360 in the background.

Xbox 360 on MTV tonight

Xbox 360 will be unvieled officially on MTV tonight. Is it even going to be worth watching with all of the details and pictures already leaked -- or will it be a big waste of long, drawn-out MTV-style hype? If you can't watch it cthen heck back later tommorow or tonight because we will be posting a summery of what we saw.

Xbox 360 pictures and details revealed

Check out pictures of the new Xbox 360 logo here. Take a look over at Kataku for some photographs of the box. The Xbox 360 premeires on MTV May 12th; however it appears that this event has already been taped as that is where the leaked logo and photos allegedly came from.

Xbox 2 is Xbox 360

Xbox 360 is going to be the official name for Xbox 2 according to sources. So why did Microsoft choose Xbox 360 instead of Xbox 2? Here is our theory: Sony will be competing with the Playstation 3. The "Xbox 2" may sound inferior against a "3." So, the marketing geniuses at Microsoft decide to name it the Xbox 360.

Xbox 2 to be shown on MTV

VoodooExtreme reports that on May 12th, 9:30PM Xbox 2 will be shown for the first time on an MTV special.. "the special will feature never-before-seen, action-packed gameplay of future Xbox games, a peek into the future of the Xbox Live online gaming service, backstage celebrity interviews and exclusive insider footage on the making of the next-generation console."

Xbox 360 rumors abound

Joystiq.com takes a look at some of the Xbox 360 rumors from CVG. No backwards compatibility, no hard drive, and region encoding aren't really "features." Of course this is all still just Xbox 2 rumors. We aren't even really sure if Xbox 2 is going to be called Xbox 360 yet!

Microsoft pushing HD gaming for next Xbox

Eurogamer has an interesting article/editorial about HD console gaming. For PC game players high definition (or high resolution) is practically a given. Anyone eage to play Doom 3 at 320x280? I didn't think so. Eurogamer correctly points out that HD gaming is hardly new at all, both for PC and console. At the latest GDC Microsoft was pushing "out of the 3D era into the 'HD era'" If anything, this is completely backwards. PC gamers have been playing games in high definition (relative to TV resolutions) since the early days of Wolfenstein 3D.

The question is why are most console gamers still playing on low resolution television screens? Besides the obvious "can't afford a $2000 television answer" why haven't consoles been made compatible with high resolution PC monitors which can be had for $200 or less?

Gamespy has gotten the details of the Xbox 2 from the Game Developer's Conferance. Here are a few:

GPU: " ATI X800. Its clock speed is 500 MHz and it supports Shader 3.0 "
System memory: "256 MB of system RAM" (Xbox has 64)
Games: "dual-layer DVD-9 discs" with up to 7gb storage

Check out the article for more details.

More info about Xbox 360 emerges

Kotaku.com has posted some details about the secretive new Xbox 360 which is due to be released at the end of the year. Aparently the look of the Xbox 360 is customizable. I don't know if this means cutting a whole in the side and placing neon lights inside or if Microsoft is just selling it in 3 different colors. Also, it will have wireless controllers.

Xbox 2 in stores by November

From Eurogamer - "Speaking under conditions of strict anonymity, senior American and British development, publishing and retail sources have confirmed the launch window in the past weeks."

Xbox 2 = Xbox360?

engadget reports.. "we've gotten word from one of our trusted sources that Microsoft has pretty much settled on a name for the next Xbox : the Xbox 360" If so what will the Xbox 3 be called? Xbox 4000?

Gates talks about Xbox 2

"We didn't do Xbox just to do a video game; we did it to be part of our vision of the digital lifestyle, and with the next generation, we really get to go there. In the first generation, we had one simple goal, which was to establish credibility as a great video game platform. We've done that. Actually, the last few months in the United States, we outsold Sony with the PlayStation. So even though they have the biggest installed base, we are a very strong, credible No. 2 in that. As we go into this next generation, it's much broader."

Xbox 2 and PS3 news

Here are some screenshots from EA's upcoming games for Xbox 2. "Electronic Arts has released a couple of impressive shots taken from a next-generation console - We're not quite sure if it's Xbox 2 or PS3." In other news Nvidia will be powering the PS3 GPU.
