Star Wars Battlefront Review -- Creep |

Anyone up for some more Battlefield 1942 goodness? Well, this time, it's done with Star Wars in mind and they call it Star Wars Battlefront. Battlefront, at the core, is nothing else but Battlefield 1942. I mean just take a look at the names. Battlefront... Battlefield... They're quite similar. Not just similar, but damn near exactly the same. Coincidence? I think not. Nonetheless, Star Wars Battlefront is a full on fast paced game for the average gamer and the Star Wars fanatics alike.
When I first heard the news of a Star Wars Battlefield 1942, excitement came over me, with thoughts of better graphics, lightsabres, and X-Wing raids against the Death Star. To my surprise, none of these were added benefits within the game. I mean come on! Whats Star Wars without lightsabre fights and the Death Star? Don't get me wrong, the graphics are better, but no where close to the level of that of Doom 3 or Half-Life 2. The levels and explosions look nice, but thats about where it ends. The player models are lacking along with the gun models. They need to crank up the polly count...people are running on more than voodoo3's now adays, right?

The sound on the other hand, is a completely different story, especially playing Battlefront on my THX 6.1 megaworks system. The sound was done nice and makes you feel like your in the middle of the Battle of Hoth with AT-ATs destroying the radar towers and the Snow Speeders flying around over head.
There is a nice selection of maps to play. With each map, you can choose either to play the galactic civil war or the clone war. Choosing between the two different wars decides which units you'll take control of and who you'll be fighting against. It adds for a little more replayability.
Overall, Battlefront is entertaining to an extent. The learning curve is minimal, making the playablity great for both the veterans and the n00bs. I thought the AI was too easy at times making the gameplay boring and dull. It is fun dominating the rebels inside an AT-ST, but you can only enjoy that for so long. This isn't a game you'll be playing hours on end, but it does make a good LAN game for those with lower system specs.
Graphics.......... Fair
Sound.............. Excellent (surround sound)
Gameplay.... Fair
Multiplayer: Good
Overall Rating...... 79%
