Second Life technically isn't a MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role playing game.) Some people wouldn't even consider it a game. Second Life is the closest thing to the Metaverse yet. Second Life is a multiuser world in which the primary thing to do is build. What to build you ask? Houses, vehicles, boats, you name it. Unfortunately it appears that more things are built than are actually used. Second Life is an interesting place to check out if you have an interest in this sort of thing. If you'd rather hack apart dragons in Everquest, then don't come here. The "virtual world" has come a long way since its early beginnings. Second Life is just another step on a long staircase.
