Rome: Total War Review - Creep |
| |
Strap on your armor and sharpen your swords, the next Total War is out and oh is it a good one. With new armies, new units, and new maps, this game is not only fun to play, but fun to watch as well.

Rome Total War is the next saga in the Total War series with its predicesors Shogun Total War and Midevil Total War. Rome Total War uses pretty much the same gameplay as the originals with minor interface changes. The same look and feel is still there but now, its 3d.
Every unit is now 3d. You can zoom in on a single unit, scroll around him, and follow him into battle and watch him as he either conquers his enemies or gets slain in combat. The graphics have been improved greatly which makes the epic battles even more entertaining to wage war in or even watch.

The sounds are just as fantastic too. As you charge into battle, you hear your men screaming warcries to the thumping of the horses hooves and the clanking of your mens armor. You can hear the arrows flying through the air and as they pierce your opponent on the other side of the battleground. The sound was done extreamly well which adds great feeling to the battles.

The mulitplayer aspect of the game is what gives Rome Total War its large replayability. Teaming up with your freidns at a small LAN party and going head to head against a few AI players is great fun within itself. There are thousands of units spread across the battlegrounds all attacking someone or something. The only things that are left after the carnage has seased are the victors and the scores of dead bodies strewn across the ground. Win or loose, it's a great time that doesn't get old quick.
The only downside to Rome Total War, that I've noticed is when you tell your archers to halt, they don't. They may halt for a few seconds, but after that they continue to fire arrows towards the enemy again even as your other units are attacking, killing a great deal of your own units.
In the end, Rome Total War is a fantastic game which scores high on all levels. The learning curve is fairly low with nice tutorials to help you out of any binds you may be in. Will you choose hordes of calvery to charge into battle with or a few war elephants to trample your enemy? The choice is up to you. Whichever route you choose, you'll have a great battle and even when it's through, it'll keep you wanting more.
Graphics.......... Excellent
Sound.............. Excellent
Singleplayer.... Excellent
Multiplayer....... Excellent
Overall Rating...... 94%
