Day of Defeat Source is the latest version of the cult favorite Half Life mod Day of Defeat. Day of Defeat Source is essentially the original game ported into the Half Life 2 engine. Essentially DoD Source is to the original DoD as Counter Strike Source is to the original CS. Day of Defeat Source has immensely improved graphics thanks to the Half Life 2 engine however the fundamental gameplay, models, and levels, are the same.

After a very, very long wait Day of Defeat Source is finally coming out. It looks like we won't have to wait until Christmas after all.
" Day of Defeat: Source is ready and we're set to make it available on Monday, September 26, at 3 pm PDT. For those who have not yet pre-purchased the game, the 10% pre-purchase discount offer ends when it is released."
If you can't wait until tommorow check out this Day of Defeat Preview with screenshots over at IGN. It looks very good. It is amazing how far one little mod went. Unfortunately I think there is something about the feeling of the original pre-retail Day of Defeat I think Valve killed. |

Valve is hard at work playtesting the new Day of Defeat Source mod, according to a recent news release on Steam. New player models have been added too. Its looking good, but I'm not sure if this Half Life 2 Source mod will every match the enjoyment I got out of Day of Defeat when it was still in beta. The Day of Defeat Source beta test has been quietly underway. A lot of details about it have emerged over the past month from beta testers. Here are a few quotes "although the game is familiar in the way it plays, it certainly feels very different. Visuals are much improved, ragdoll physics are a first for DoD, and they look fantastic in application within the game... The two maps we are currently playtesting are dod_Avalanche and dod_Flash, and they look superb, particularly Flash, with its long distance "vistas", surrounding the map, of smoke plumes and distant buildings."
