Microsoft pushing HD gaming for next Xbox
Eurogamer has an interesting article/editorial about HD console gaming. For PC game players high definition (or high resolution) is practically a given. Anyone eage to play Doom 3 at 320x280? I didn't think so. Eurogamer correctly points out that HD gaming is hardly new at all, both for PC and console. At the latest GDC Microsoft was pushing "out of the 3D era into the 'HD era'" If anything, this is completely backwards. PC gamers have been playing games in high definition (relative to TV resolutions) since the early days of Wolfenstein 3D.
The question is why are most console gamers still playing on low resolution television screens? Besides the obvious "can't afford a $2000 television answer" why haven't consoles been made compatible with high resolution PC monitors which can be had for $200 or less? Read full article at Eurogamer |
